US-based FuelCell Energy and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings (MHB) are joining forces to develop large-scale hydrogen production systems.
Kallanish(开阑商务信息咨询)获悉,根据两家公司达成的联合开发协议,FuelCell将为亚洲的绿色制氢工厂提供固体氧化物电解槽(SOEC)技术。MHB将贡献其在大规模制造方面的专业知识,为亚洲、新西兰和澳大利亚的项目开发模块化解决方案。
The two companies have agreed on a joint development agreement, under which FuelCell will provide solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) technology for green hydrogen plants in Asia. MHB will contribute its expertise in large-scale fabrication to develop modular solutions for projects located across Asia, New Zealand, and Australia, Kallanish learns.

The undisclosed deal comes after the pair signed an MOU in 2023 to scale up hydrogen solutions to bring production costs down.

Separately, MHB contracted FuelCell to carry out a detailed feasibility study for a fuel production facility in Malaysia, which would use SOEC technology to process CO2 and water. The fuel synthesis technology will be provided by Texas-based company KBR.

Malaysia is betting on green hydrogen to cut 15% of its greenhouse gas emissions, as part of its net zero goal by 2050. Last year, the government unveiled a roadmap targeting the production of 2 million tonnes/year of green hydrogen by 2030, growing to 16m t/y by 2050.
