ArcelorMittal builds new finished steel line in Brazil
ArcelorMittal has announced plans to invest between BRL 3.8-4 billion($656.8-691.4 million) in the construction of a new cold strip mill (LTF) and a continuous coating line at its Tubar?o plant in Espírito Santo, Kallanish notes. This project, part of the group\'s 2022-2028 strategic development plan, aligns with a broader investment initiative of BRL 25 billion in Brazil.
“The new facilities will significantly expand the plant’s production capabilities, allowing for the creation of higher value-added products and further strengthening the company’s presence in key markets, including the automotive, home appliance and construction sectors,” ArcelorMittal explains.
The LTF will produce cold-rolled products using hot coils manufactured at the Tubar?o facility, which will then be processed in the continuous coating line. This will ensure enhanced corrosion resistance and improved surface quality. The investment reflects a strong commitment to sustainability, incorporating modern environmental control systems aligned with global best practices.
The project’s feasibility studies have been completed, and it is now moving through the internal approval process. The engineering and contracting stages are set to conclude in the first half of 2026. Construction is expected to take about three years, with operations scheduled to begin in the first half of 2029.
The expansion is expected to create 2,500 jobs during the construction phase and will require approximately 450 employees once the facilities are operational.
